WHY I WANT TO GOVERN KATSINA STATE - ENGR. MOHAMMED NURA KHALIL - PART ONE (1)

One of the main elements that distinguish Engr. Mohammed Nura Khalil from his peers is his quest for continuous learning, self-development and improvement. He is always on the quest to learn more, acquire new knowledge, gather new insights and apply them in his professional, political and social lives.

Engr. Mohammed Nura Khalil never rest on his series of achievements; he continuously strive to improve himself. He lived by the life motto which says “the day one stop learning is the day one starts to die”. And this is especially true in this digital age, because the rate of change of knowledge is astronomical, there is so much new stuff happening that once one stops learning –he/she quickly becomes archaic and irrelevant. So to stay ahead of the curve and relevant, one must continue to acquire new knowledge and understanding.

Engr. Mohammed Nura Khalil wish to govern Katsina State for the simple reason that he believed he can bring new ideas, perspectives and dimensions which can salvage Katsina State from its current state of near-total collapse. Being an experienced politician, he guarantees that he will do things differently. He will create wealth! He will not wait to be given federal government subvention as is the case on the Katsina State. Engr. Mohammed Nura Khalil will break the age-long practice of making our budget based on what we hope to get from the Federal government as opposed to what we generate internally.

The fundamental role of a governor is to create wealth, not to squander it.  Engr. Mohammed Nura Khalil will not to wait for FG to dole out subvention but look for ways of generating revenue by transforming the state into a productive one..

To that end, He  intend to  make the budget of Katsina State based on the revenue we generate internally and not based on what the federal government may dole-out to us

Engr.Khalil will steer Katsina away from the spend-spend-spend culture that we currently see, towards an invest-invest-invest and cultivate-cultivate-cultivate culture. Engr. Khalil promise to tap on the unique offerings of Katsina State, particularly in the agricultural sector and ensure the state take commanding and leading positions in that regard. He promise to  set an internally revenue generation target (say N30 billion for the agricultural sector) and if he get an individual who come forward and convinces him that they can deliver that amount from the agricultural sector, he shall work with such a person to actualize it.

BUILD KATSINA’S TECHNICAL CAPACITY:

One of the big issues in Katsina is that we do not have capable and functioning engineering firms. Any large capital projects which need to be executed will always require firms from Lagos or Abuja because our people do not own large construction firms capable of handling all aspects of such contracts. This explains why currently approximately 75% of the contracts in Katsina are executed by outsiders (not indigenes). What this means is that 75% of Katsina’s revenue (or subvention) leaves the state –only 25% is utilised within the economy, which is why our people are so poor. This is really something Katsina to other states and to the hands of the Chinese? To put an end to this, Engr. Mohammed Nura Khalil will build the capacity of our people by giving them avenues to own and operate small companies which can grow into large functioning corporations. He intend to  start small, but the end goal is to develop large corporations which are capable of going to Abuja and competing for large contracts like other Nigerians do. If a Katsina firm gets a large contract –say N50 billion, you can imagine how that will revolutionise the state. Such are the types of contracts other Nigerian gets, which we are yet to see a single Katsina State man come close to.
